Michael J. Meyer - Owner
Mike has a long history in the hospitality field dating back to his college days of the early 1980's when he was a tour guide at Christian Brothers Winery while attending Napa Valley Jr. College and later Chateau Souverain Winery while attending Sonoma State University. In his college years, he also worked for Brookside Winery in Marina Del Ray, California, Marina Pacific Hotel in Venice Beach, California, Holiday Inn in Napa Valley, California and several small restaurants in Healdsburg, California.
After graduating from college, he came back east to learn more about European wines and worked in a variety of different aspects of the wine industry. They included: a wine salesman for McKesson Wine and Spirits in Charleston, South Carolina, a Sales Manager for Atlanta Wholesale Wine in Savannah, a wine buyer for Harry’s Farmers Market located in Marietta, a sales representative for United Distributors in Atlanta, and a wine Sommelier for the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta.
Mike got involved in the special events aspect of the hospitality field quiet by accident when he bought an 1859 Antebellum home in Newnan, Georgia to renovate and restore in 1996. After almost a year of renovation and restoration, he put the house on the market to sell. The house did not sell; so in 1997 he opened Something Special Events to bring in some revenue and to help with the continuing renovating costs. People loved coming to Something Special for their family's special occasions and the business grew and evolved. Something Special hosts home tours, garden tours, weddings and receptions, anniversary parties, family reunions, graduation parties and corporate events. Mike added beautiful gardens and built the music room, ballroom and library in 2000. He renovated the servants quarters as the groom’s suite and was honored with the Restoration Award from the Newnan Coweta Historical Society in 2005.
One of Mike's hobbies is gardening. He received his Master Gardener's certification in 2004. He remembers helping his grandfather with his garden as child back in Ft. Wayne, In. Other hobbies include traveling, hiking, renovation and historical restoration, and collecting antiques, pottery, modern art and wine.
